Shopping in Kuala Lumpur: Best Malls
Bonjour and Good Day ๐
Kuala Lumpur has so many malls! And when you think that's it, no more, they still build new ones ๐ The latest I know about is TRX which is less than 2km away from several other malls and which we'll explore in this article.
I'll organize this below in five categories: luxury shopping, trendy/themed malls, electronics heaven, affordable heaven and finally the giant malls. If you think of a better classification, help me in the comments ^^
I - Luxury Shopping
If you're looking for designer brands and fancy experiences, those malls will have what you need. If not they are still nice places to visit, especially TRX!
TRX
This is KLโs latest shopping mall. Itโs clean, modern and right in the heart of the city. The cover picture is of TRX which is actually called "The Exchange TRX". On top of TRX they also have some kind of park with benches where you can sit and have a view of the city around.
Pavilion KL
Pavilion is where all the big designer names hang outโGucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, you name it! The mall has an incredible atmosphere and a nice food court, although the prices are higher that what you'd usually find. They also have a small japanese section on the top floor with Daiso (decor/stationery furnitures) and a few japanese restaurants.
Suria KLCC
The KLCC mall is located next to the iconic Petronas Towers and is worth a visit. You could for example plan a walk to KLCC park and right next to the park go inside the mall. My personal take for this one is that the mall feels old compared to the previous two, I wouldn't call it a must-visit but it could be nice if you're planning to go in that area (which you'll probably plan ๐).
It is also connected to the aquarium which I've yet to see but will eventually see and review!
II - Trendy/themed malls
These malls are more casual/chill and perfect for finding original shops and products.
Lot 10
Lot 10 is one of my favorites with its Japanese vibes on the top floor plus the presence of "Don Don Donki". If you've been to Japan you certainly know about the "Don Quijote" shops, well this is its local equivalent. In that shop you'll find tons of products imported from Japan and a repetitive song that will stick in your brain ๐
Also a lot of times on the ground floor they have small crafting stands or small events which is a nice added touch!
Publika
Publika has a more artsy, hipster vibe, making it popular with the creative crowd. Itโs packed with indie boutiques, art galleries, and cafes. If youโre after unique finds this is the place ๐. The prices in that area would be higher than what you'd usually find in KL though.
Sunway Pyramid
This mall is unique because itโs kind of designed like a pyramid (yes that's why it's in the name ๐). You can find plenty of stores and restaurants here. Thereโs also an indoor ice skating rink, archery practice and bowling. Itโs a great mall for shopping and fun family activities. Worth a visit especially if you're planning to go to the water park close by: Sunway Lagoon. I haven't been there because I don't like water but I will eventually and review it ๐
III - Electronics heaven
Low Yat Plaza
This is THE place for gadgets/tech. Whether you need a new phone, laptop, or camera, even cables, Low Yat has it all. The prices are competitive, and thereโs always room for a good deal ๐.
I was once looking for a specific type of cable which I couldn't find there and when I went around KL I was told everytime to try Low Yat ๐ This is the reference!
IV - Affordable heaven
Sungei Wang Plaza
I didn't know how to categorize this one but I wanted to put it in the article, it's right next to Low Yat. Sungei Wang might be old but itโs a great spot for affordable products. You can find fashion stores, accessories and gadgets, all at wallet-friendly prices ๐. There's also a lot of hairdressers and nail shops there.
V - Giant malls
Those malls are really massive, I don't know what else to say ๐
Mid Valley Megamall & The Gardens
Mid Valley is a shopping paradise for shopping lovers! Itโs got everything from fashion to electronics, beauty, and more. And if you want a bit more luxury, you can head over to The Gardens, which is connected to Mid Valley. These two malls are a perfect combination for both high-end and budget shopping, all in one HUGE place ๐.
1 Utama
Also called "1U", it's quite old and once was the seventh-largest shopping mall in the world, still one of the largest in Malaysia. My opinion about this one is quite similar to my opinion about the KLCC mall, if you have time and like shopping then go for it. Otherwise it's okay, it's not a must-visit ๐
