Key Emergency Number : 999

This is the main emergency number to call for police, ambulance, or fire services. Think of it as Malaysia's version of 911.

How Emergency Services Work in Malaysia

I've never called 999 so really I don't know but from what I've researched, when you call an emergency number, the operator will ask for a few key details:

  • Location: Make sure to give your exact location or the nearest landmark. For example "at Jalan xxxx" (the street name + number if you have).
  • Type of emergency: Whether it’s a fire, medical issue, or security concern.
  • Basic information: Your name and any additional information that can help them respond quickly.

Police and Safety

If you encounter safety issues, theft, or any legal matters, calling 999 will connect you to the police. You can also visit a local police station to file a report.

Kuala Lumpur also has a Tourist Police force that’s specifically there to help visitors. They are usually stationed in popular tourist areas like Bukit Bintang, KLCC, and Chinatown. I've actually never noticed or seen them but apparentlythey wear white helmets and dark blue uniforms with a badge that says “Tourist Police”. Sorry I cannot provide more information on this yet ^^
