Bonjour and Good Day 😃

Kuala Lumpur is warm and tropical all year long! In this guide, we’ll explore what you can expect from the weather and help you find the best time to visit Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur's Climate

Kuala Lumpur has a tropical rainforest climate, which means it’s warm and humid pretty much all year. Temperatures usually stay between 25°C and 33°C (77°F to 91°F) throughout the year, so you won’t need a sweater (unless you're indoors with the AC blasting OR inside a movie theater 😄).
The humidity can make the city feel a little sticky/sweaty as it is usually in this area of the world. Most if not all shops and cafes have AC and feel fresh.

There's two seasons, wet or dry season which we'll explore below.

Wet Season (Monsoon Periods)

KL's wettest months happen twice a year, during the monsoon seasons. The first wet season is from April to October, with more frequent rains in the afternoons. The second one kicks in during November to March, but it’s generally lighter compared to the first.

Mornings are often still bright and sunny, usually the rain would come hit in the late afternoon + night. Rain showers are usually short but intense, reminder that convenience stores such as Seven Eleven sell raincoats 😄.

It's also a great time to explore cozy cafes or hit the many malls in the city. There's always something to do indoors when the rain starts pouring. I plan to write an article on indoor activities!

Dry Season

KL’s dry season is technically between May and September, though "dry" is relative. You’ll still get occasional rain, but it’s less frequent compared to the monsoon periods. The skies are clearer, and the weather is a bit more predictable, which is perfect for outdoor activities.

This is the best time to explore parks such as the KLCC park! If you're a fan of outdoor dining, street food markets, and rooftop bars, the dry season is your moment too. It’s also a great time for a day trip to places like Batu Caves or even Genting Highlands if you’re up for a quick escape from the city 😇.
